‘The municipalities of Berat, Kuçova and Dimal are aware and committed to operate and maintain the disposal sites by increasing the budget and defining the dedicated staff for their management’, was the message of Mr Adrian Maître, Ambassador of the Swiss Embassy along with Mrs Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, Minister of Tourism and Environment and Mrs Enkelejda Muçaj Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy during their visit to the rehabilitated disposal sites in Berat, Kuçova and Dimal

Positive appraisal of the Deputy Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Albania, Dr. Patrick Meier, on maintenance and operation of rehabilitated disposal sites in Dimal and Kuçova Municipalities

In the framework of the project 'Integrated Waste Management in Berat Region' the rehabilitated disposal sites are being operated and managed by the respective staffs of Dimal and Kuçova Municipalities, in accordance with the operational plan, legal framework, as well as under the consultancy of the Project Team. Municipalities have hired staff to operate the rehabilitated disposal sites and the project consultant is continuing training sessions with the staff to enhance their skills in the maintenance and operation of disposal sites. During the visit, the Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland Dr. Patrick Meier and the representatives of the Swiss Embassy asserted that 'the Swiss government supported the municipalities to rehabilitate the existing disposal sites, but now it is the duty of the municipalities to continue with the maintenance of the investment and future management'. The support for the Region of Berat started in 2018 and the community of the region has benefitted from and increase in the quality of services and municipal infrastructure.

National Challenge Local Solutions

The conference National Challenge - Local Solutions was held on Wednesday 20 October 2021 to share and promote the results of the project Integrated Solid Waste Management in Berat Region. The meeting, held in Mak Albania Hotel, Tirana, gathered together representatives of central and local government authorities, program implementers, the donor community, and representatives from the private sector and civil society.

Award ceremony of the #GreenBerat contest

Warm atmosphere and a wide participation of varied ages and the many winners in the Ceremony of Prize Award. Citizens of Berat, Kuçovë, Dimal, Skrapar dhe Poliçan, for about eight months, undertook environmental initiatives, implemented creative ideas involving various ages, individuals and organised groups. Following the voluntary implementation of initiatives, 35 applicants competed with their activity and the message conveyed to the community.
